Yes, the rumors are true about Angel Cove. As of January 1st, 2010, the Angel Cove Organ Donation Awareness Shop will be donating 100% of all its profits to charity! It has been long-coming as it is has been in my heart for some time now.
What kept me back was fear of the unknown and the difficult economic times. You see, both my husband and I are currently under-employed – meaning we only have part-time jobs due to the economy. This has made it so that we have had to learn to cut back on a lot of things in our life in order to pay our bills as well as medical bills and the 13 transplant medications my husband is currently taking for his double-lung organ transplant.
I guess you are wondering why we are doing this if we are scrapping by to make ends meet ourselves. Well, we may not have tons of money but we have been blessed beyond words. God has granted us another chance at life with my husband’s miracle organ transplant. The transplant was paid for 100% by my old insurance and we currently have Cobra to at least help us cover some of the current medical expenses to make sure he does not do without medical care or prescription drugs.
However, there are many out there that have cut back on seeing the doctor or worse – they have cut back or stopped altogether on their transplant medications. Even one day without their prescriptions can lead to organ rejection and, sadly, death.
Yes, we have been blessed to have medical coverage and be able to make ends meet each and every month. There are too many out there that cannot afford even to see their transplant doctors even once a year let alone pay for a life-saving organ transplant. That is why it has been on my heart for some time now to just trust in God that he will provide for us while donating 100% of all proceeds from the Angel Cove Organ Donation Awareness Shop to the UW-Madison Laurie Ferber Transplant Fund in Wisconsin, which benefits heart and lung transplant patients at UW Hospital and Clinics by defraying the cost of accommodations, travel and other unexpected medical expenses.
Sure, we may have to turn down our thermostat or shut the lights off more frequently but no one should have to go without medical care or a life-saving transplant because they simply cannot afford it. It is the least we can do to help others along their path to a second chance at life!
