Stepping away from the 2010 Transplant Games

Path through the wilderness

It’s amazing how fast talk travels. Just yesterday, the Hubby and I were thinking about our future and which path in our life together we want to take. Over a few days time, we put down the final details on what in our lives would stay and what would need to go. There was too much stress and not enough true living.

One of the more difficult decisions was whether or not to still take part in the 2010 Transplant Games. Why wouldn’t we want to be part of a historic event as hundreds of organ transplant recipients, donors and donor families convened to demonstrate their passion for life and for transplant awareness.

However, we quickly realized that not only was the economy putting a damper on our goal to be part of this event but it would also mean almost a week out of work for me. Given that I am the primary breadwinner for the family and run my own business, there is no such thing as paid time off or vacation days with pay. Add to it that the Hubby has been eagerly searching for a new Architecture job for over a year now and you can easily see our situation.

Although we did already pay our fees to enter the 2010 Transplant Games, we realized quickly how much the event would cost us should we continue to travel down that path. There’s food, hotel, travel and the amount of work I would miss out on for that week.

So that left us with only one choice – we needed to walk away from the event and do so now.

Alas, you will not find Angel Cove at the 2010 Transplant Games in Madison, WI this year but we may bump into you in years to come!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families attending the event and rooting for Team Wisconsin all the way!

Sorry to hear that you won’t be able to make it this year, but I think everyone can understand why! Good luck with future events!

Thanks Sue! We wish we could make it but attending will actually take us a few steps away from our goals. We want to be financially free, travel the world and experience new things together every day. Although the 2010 Transplant Games are a phenomenal event, missing work and running around just to take part in it would not add to the quality of our lives. Of course, we are still backing Team Wisconsin and all the athletes 100% and will continue to raise event awareness through the Angel Cove Transplant blog! :)
